Glamping on the Essex Coast

Finally, we were able to dust off the suitcases and get away for a long weekend – it has been a while and my packing skills were rather rusty!

Towards the end of April we headed only an hour or so down the road to St Osyth to a glamping site called Lee Wick Farm

Lee Wick has a variety of camping, glamping and cottage options to stay in, with the glamping being voted by The Times as one of the 20 best sites within the UK.

We did this trip with another family and booked both of the CargoPods. The CargoPods were cladded shipping containers with a double bedroom, sofa bed, bathroom and little kitchenette suitable for up to a family of 4. They both have private secure gardens and dogs are also very welcome. Although as we have such a small (and rather naughty) dog – it wasn’t quite secure enough for him but we normally expect this and always bring some rope for Sydney to be tied to!

Now when I was packing for a glamping trip in a chilly April the car was packed full of warm clothes and extra blankets but, we were really fortunate with the weather and had lovely sunny days and in the evenings there was a fire pit and log fired hot tub to keep us warm! Inside the CargoPod a small heater has been fitted as well and it was actually cosy throughout the night so most stuff we packed we didn’t actually need – but at least we know for next time! The kitchenette was also really well equipped with sponges, washing up liquid and tea towels as well as all the cutlery and crockery you would need for 4. Each night we cooked outside on the brick BBQs and had pre-ordered all the coal, wood and firelighters from Lee Wick so it was all there ready for us to use and one less thing to pack in the car.

St Osyth is a great base to explore the Essex and Suffolk coastline. The village itself is only very small but has a local shop and a few takeouts should you need anything.

During the days we spent one at Holland-on-Sea which is the best beach if you’ve got a dog as most parts they are allowed on all year round and there is also the Flag’s Cafe down on the beach to get food, drinks, ice creams and beach toys from which is just so handy as you don’t need to take too much stuff with you.

We also spent an afternoon at Curve Water Park which was 5 minutes from the Lee Wick Farm site. The water park covers all things water sports and the kids and dogs had a blast kayaking whilst the parents could have a coffee and take in the sun from a newly built decking area. Lee Wick customers get a discount as well!

This was such a great weekend away for us after everything thats happened with COVID over the last year. It was peaceful, quiet, the glamping was super clean and everything felt safe which was such a relief. It was just easy which is what we were after! For an average of around £100 per night, even in the school holidays it was SUCH good value for money. We enjoyed it so much so that we booked another weekend for the end of August to try out the Lushna suites and we cannot wait to return!
