Glamping at The BoatShack

We came across this absolute glamping gem on the CoolStays website, a website I’ve spent many an hour scrolling through! We were looking for an overnight somewhere not too far from home, somewhere for a change of scenery during the May school half-term holidays and so we found The BoatShack!

The BoatShack is a beautifully converted 1945 boat to sleep in paired up with an industrial-style eco kitchen and outdoor bathtub. It’s typically an adults-only accommodation but after dropping a message to the owners they were more than accomodating for Faye (age 11) and I to visit. It’s located about 30 minutes from Cambridge and 15 minutes from Ely so was ideal for us to pop to for an overnight stay. It is in the absolute middle of nowhere, other than the owner you will. not. see. a. soul. Idyllic!

The cost was £250 per night and there can be quite a wait to get a date but everything you needed was included, firewood, bedding, DVDs even some beers in the fridge. We just took some meat for the BBQ and enjoyed the peace and quiet.

The boat is in the grounds of the owners’ house, but private enough you wouldn’t really know. The owners have a number of children who offered to show Faye around all their animals which was a really lovely touch.

We couldn’t recommend this stay more for a few nights’ getaway – laying in the bath outside at night was just divine!!
