We’ve just come back from three days in a secluded treehouse!
The Old Oak is a two-storey treehouse built within a 500-year-old oak tree. It’s based on Coleman’s Farm which is only an hour outside London. The farm which has been in the family for over four generations has 4 different types of accommodation which are hidden over the 200 acres of farmland.
The Old Oak whilst luxurious is back to basics with no wifi or electronics! It’s normally an adult-only retreat but after an email to the owners about Faye’s age they were more than accommodating in letting me bring her. The upside in it being an adults-only retreat is that prices don’t skyrocket in the school holidays!!
The oak tree is literally going through the treehouse. You have to climb over the trunk to get to the toilet! On the first floor there is a gigantic two-man bath tub and the second floor has a double bed, sofa, dining table, small kitchenette and a balcony that overlooks a pond. It isn’t actually child friendly and I don’t think they’d allowed children any younger than 12 due to safety, you also need to get your supplies in as the tap isn’t suitable to drink from.
The pandemic has definitely opened our eyes up to the possibilities of exploring the UK more and not just hopping on a flight to another country to feel like we’re getting a ‘break’. This treehouse was only 45 minutes from home and couldn’t have been a more wonderful trip. Life’s so chaotic at the moment but being able to take a few days away with no distractions meant Faye and I could really spend some quality time together and neither of us missed our phones once!
We’re really keen to try out ‘The Nook‘ next time as it’s dog friendly and has an outdoor bath tub! Faye’s also sold on the beds being up in the ceiling!
